Ingredients

  • 300 grams Chicken - with Bone
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chilli powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder (Haldi)
  • Salt - to taste
  • Sunflower Oil
  • 2 Onions - roughly chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh coconut - grated
  • 4 cloves Garlic
  • 1 inch Ginger - chopped
  • 1 inch Cinnamon Stick (Dalchini)
  • 4 Cloves (Laung)
  • 4 Dry Red Chilli
  • 1 tablespoon Poppy seeds

To begin making the Karnataka Style Chicken Saaru formula, we will first make the masala for the saaru. fiery up a small skillet on medium-low flame, mix in the poppy seeds and parched char them. Once the poppy seeds are roasted, mix in in the cloves, cinnamon and parched red chilli and char them well.

Turn off the flame and keep it aside.fiery up another wok on medium flame, mix in a tablespoon of fat, mix in ginger, garlic, onions and saute until the onions turn translucent.mix in grated coconut and saute well till they turn light brown.

Turn off the flame.In a mixer-jar, combine the parched roasted spices along with ginger-garlic-shallot mixture, grind to a creamy paste along with some moisture.

Transfer to a dish and set aside. fiery up fat in the pressure cooker over medium fiery up, mix in the chicken, turmeric ground mix,table salt and red chilli ground mix.

char the chicken in the wok for about 5 mins until the chicken begins to get a roasted texture and is getting partially cooked. After 5 mins of roasting the chicken, mix in the ground saaru masala (shallot coconut & spices paste) and give it a mix gently.

Check for table salt and mix in 1 cup of moisture and pressure prepare for about 3 to 4 whistles until the chicken is cooked and turn off the fiery up.Allow the pressure to release naturally.
