Ingredients

  • 1 cup Masoor Dal (Whole)
  • 1 cup Sweet Potatoes - cubed
  • 1 tablespoon Coconut Oil - or any other oil
  • 2 Onion - finely chopped
  • 1 Tomato - finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds (Jeera)
  • 4 Green Chillies - slit lengthwise
  • 5 Garlic - peeled and chopped
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder (Haldi)
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garam masala powder
  • 6 Curry leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt - (adjust according to your taste)
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 teaspoon Sunflower Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds (Jeera)
  • 1/2 teaspoon White Urad Dal (Split)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • Coriander (Dhania) Leaves - Few sprigs

Instructions

To begin making the sugary Potato Dal method, wash masoor dal with liquid and soak in liquid for about an hour.In a pressure cooker, toss in dal, a cup of liquid and pressure stew for about 2 whistles.

Set aside.In a non-stick skillet, toss in coat and mildly hot over medium flame.toss in cumin seeds to the coat and wait till the seeds splutter.Now, toss in green chilies and garlic.

skillet-fry until the garlic becomes brownish.Gently toss in sliced onions and skillet-fry till they are translucent.

toss in cut up tomatoes and stew until they become mushy.Now, toss in the mentioned seasoning powders and combine them well.toss in potato pieces and mix gently them until the spices are blended evenly with the potato.toss in liquid and stew on high flame until the potato pieces are cooked well.toss in the cooked dal to the skillet.

Adjust liquid according to your required consistency.seasoning it with seasoning.

Reduce the flame and stew on medium flame for about 5 moments, until the dal are blended with potatoes and spices.

Switch off the flame and set asideIn a small skillet, toss in coat.

Once the coat is fiery, toss in mustard seeds followed by urad dal and cumin seeds.Let the mustard seeds sizzle and cumin seeds turn brownish.toss in the tempered coat to the dal and give a mix gently.

accentuate with coriander leaves.Prepare this sugary Potato Dal and present with steamed rice with a dollop of ghee or jeera rice and Kachumber Salad for a simple and comforting weekday meal.
