Ingredients

  • 2-1/2 cups Coconut milk
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1/4 cup Roasted Gram Dal (Pottukadalai)
  • 8 Green Chillies - adjustable
  • 1 teaspoon Sunflower Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds (Jeera)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder (Haldi)
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Salt - to taste
  • Coriander (Dhania) Leaves - few sprigs

Instructions

Start preparing Kobbari Chaaru method (Coconut whole milk & Dal Sambar) by preparing coconut whole milk.

Scrape the white flesh of half of the freshly opened coconut and grind in a blender using around 2 cups of moisture.Strain with a sieve to extract coconut whole milk.Grind the roasted chana dal along with green chillies into a fine paste in a Mixer adding moisture as required and set aside until required.Now bring to temperature a Kadai with cooking oil.

Let them splutter for few seconds.stream in in turmeric, moisture, coconut whole milk, seasoning and bring this to bubble.As soon as it starts boiling, swirl around in the ground dal paste and toss together well.

Make sure that there are no lumps, by stirring while you stream in in the paste.Bring the mixture to bubble and at this stage, it resembles kadhi.Lastly, scatter with coriander leaves and turn off the bring to temperature.Scrumptious Kobbari Chaaru method (Coconut whole milk & Dal Sambar) is ready to be served for lunch with steamed rice and fryum (Akki Peni sandige) or just Phulka method (Roti/Chapati) - Puffed Indian Bread.
